Unsure what CMYK, RGB and PMS colours all mean? Selecting the right model is important for accurate printing. Here is an explanation that might be helpful.

CMYK Colour
CMYK is made up of 4 colours, Cyan (C), Magenta (M), Yellow (Y) and Black (K – for Key). These 4 individual inks combine to create a full colour spectrum. Each colour has a seperate plate on the printing press and percentages of each colour are printed on top of each other to create the artwork/image.

RGB Colour
RGB is made up of 3 colours, Red (R), Green (G) and Blue (B). These 3 primary colours combine to create a full colour spectrum. They are used for screens ie – computer, TV, mobile phones. These light bases displays allow them to look bright and vibrant.

Pantone/PMS Colour
PMS stands for Pantone Matching System. This colour model uses specific shades of pure colour allowing them to be matched by any printer worldwide. Often a PMS colour may be selected for use on a logo or company brand colour in order to maintain accurate representation every time it is printed, no matter which printer you choose to use.
Colour books are available for purchase to help with colour selection. Each swatch displayed in the book has a specific code to ensure effective communication between customers and their printer.
